480- Unsure Explorer

I sat down with the intention of drawing an explorer type and this sad guy came out. this is a digital drawing, and the line quality came out a lot better than the last time I just sketched aimlessly. I really want to do more drawing digitally, just hone my hand at it. Now that I think about it, I think this guy comes from a passing thought about doing a comic about a brokenhearted adventurer. Who in the nadir of emotion decides to descend into the underdark. He continues to delve deeper and deeper into the dark as his broken heart grants him the uncaring daring needed to survive. hmmm, maybe.

462- morning exercise

I made this quick image just so I wouldn't feel unproductive when I get to work. So as I am washing dishes, I can think, "at least I did a little art today." thats all. I will get back to the grindstone after work. Yokes!

digital painting?

Hi all,
I am trying my hand at digital painting again, and I don't know if its worth devoting anymore time to than say, traditional drawing or even painting for that matter. The inspiration just grabbed me and took me away from other pressing projects. I am not a painter, I am more proficient at drawing than painting. So I am unaware of the intricate differences in digital and traditional, but that is for others to discuss. I am just in debate to whether pursue proficient skill in this media or not, in all likelihood I will. This is just the nature of my curiosity, and in doing so I will just mesh it other media techniques. The topmost image is my favorite version, its the only one I remembered to crop, but I also like the balance of line and color. This balance of not entirely relying on line to save me was difficult. Due to my preference of drawing to painting.

This one has more color to it, or thicker paint, its my second favorite. The goblin seems more tangible, more real. But if I pursued this approach further, I would want to blend more colors, Have a decided palette, which I am unaware of how to do yet digitally.

This is just a kinda neat filter effect that I liked.

This version is minus the gold glow of greed. I like the subtle muted colors.

This one has less of a defined edge or line, it looks more like an underpainting.

These last two look more like charcoal or conte drawings, so I like them.

Okay, that's it.
So what do you think of this nonsense.

HI

Its December and we are getting close to the end of the year, and this blog is getting close to its 300 hundredth post. For me that seems completely ridiculous, as I cant believe I have stuck with my "art" blog for so long. My usual modus operandi is to get excited about something and slowly wane out of it. Yahoo for me, Yahoo for art!
so whats your favorite post of the year?
and what should be the 300th post be?

if you leave a comment I will give you a prize...of some sort.

digital color & frustration

So, being an artist is complete self-inflicted torture, it reminds me of a thought i heard about unrequited love, "..its like banging your head against a wall thats not really there." the frustration one feels is beyond my talent as a writer to describe, its wholly disintegrative of one's self esteem. i am unsure if the frustration is a result of doubt or its the reverse. but those two are as thick as thieves in the ebb.
i drew and colored this goblin image yesterday and already i completely dislike it, i am tempted to erase it, but then half of this post title wouldn't make sense. its hard to understand this mentality, like you are always on the cusp of the flow. so near the breakthrough, you just can't wait. as an artist you constantly have these little blocks and breakthroughs, you think i would be used to it, but i doubt one ever gets used to it. no wonder why van gogh ate his paint.
