Okay, when I see art online, sometimes it gets me down. But it shouldn't, art should inspire you as an artist. It should help you find out certain ascetics that please you, and help you make those artistic choices. Like that old bastardized art adage "young artists borrow, old artists steal." or something like that, but if you see some element you like try it out. This is within reason, dont make a career out of ape-ing some other artist. It's okay to follow an old master's lead or be influenced by another's style but not to be creatively stunted. Anyhoo, I recently did some art for my friend's albums, I am pretty happy on how they came out.
In this first one, I am stoked on the colors and how the clouds came out. which I borrowed from some cartoon I saw awhile ago, unfortunately I dont remember which one. the second one came out okay too, I was going for an ol' timey rubberhouse look, which I hope is fairly obvious.

POST 514- BHP STUDY
I am soon to start another comic endeavor, this time with an old and talented friend. This is his creation, the black hole patrol, and together we are going to bring them back to life. I am going to post more of my sketches and character drawings here as I begin to learn them all over again. The actual comic is kinda a long way off at this point but I promise it will be worth the wait.
thanks.

Post 504- still functioning
Hi, I have not posted for like a month and it seems like forever and in regards to the internet it is. I have been really busy lately with no clear focus in mind. I finished another segment of an animation I started a couple months back and have not had the time to scan it and put it into a loop. I have been doing a lot of what is usually called graphic design work, which is not my favorite thing to do, but must be done some times. I am working on a new mini comic, a more personal one about the rants and raves in my head...should be interesting. I am also collaborating with the good Dr. Josh Barone again, on a new desert island gag comic, should be great stuff. I am also trying to finish up on a boardgame with my good buddy O, which is a great game and just needs some polishing up. so many projects in the air, need to start knocking them down.
Here is a star trek comic i did for a trek cartoon site, enjoy! if you can!!

...and 25 hours a day to draw. and the spirit to keep at it all day. Anyhoo, I have been kinda busy lately, doing flyers and poster images, but no comics. I am currently starting an animation project that I am pretty excited about, hand drawn!

460* - BEAUTIFUL SUNNY AFTERNOON
SPACEMAN SPIFF, about three feet by four feet, something like that. Black, Red and White oils on canvas. I started this last fall, and have not had the will to jump back into it, hibernating I guess. But anyhoo, today was so pretty, I had to be outside. I am going to wait for today's paints to dry and will go back in with more white and red, obscure the lines more.
*-somehow I skipped #460 in my post count, so I had to fix it.

a bit of fun.
So I bought this book on cartooning, it is pretty great so far, it has a bunch of drawing exercises to do. This one was to draw five to ten second doodles of famous cartoon characters from memory. Leaving just a essence of the character in the gesture, anyways, here are my favorite ones.
I think these might be pretty much in order of creation, with the last four being slightly mixed up, but you can definitely see a style forming. My favorites of this bunch is Snoopy, because of his weird shape and emotion, and Micky Mouse, for the same reason. They both look very old school cartoony, simple bodied with little attention to limbs.
anyways, enjoy!

344- PHEWWW!!

...The last month or so has been a real whirlwind. I had to get my comix ready to print, then deal with actually printing them, then we had our comic convention debut! This all happened locally here in San Jose California, the con debut was at Big WOW!comic fest. We decided that this would be our debut because it is our hometown(of sorts) and it was the con's debut with a new name, and what a name it is. at the con, we sold our first comic to someone we didn't already know, an NDVR first. So that makes us comic professionals. All this seems so minor as i write this, but it has been a long time in the making. Nick and I have had this delusion for more than half our lives. Now as the supposed end of times is nigh, we finally make progress, seems fitting somehow.
This month has also been really emotional for me personally, as things change all around me.
it seems like it never ends. as the kepi songs states,
"my life is starting over again."
and it always does.
