POST 503- Time Traveling Turtles!

Here is a first of a series of sketches where I draw some TMNT traveling through time/space.

POAT 502- Walker Kid!

I did this drawing on the side as I was doing a illustration gig for a friend of a friend, I quite like it. I can think of a good landscape for the background.

POST 501- Skeleton band

At the end of the world, our skeleton bones will rise and celebrate.

499 two days = 1.5 seconds.

yesh....this is tough, but fun.

498- if only I had five hands...

...and 25 hours a day to draw. and the spirit to keep at it all day. Anyhoo, I have been kinda busy lately, doing flyers and poster images, but no comics. I am currently starting an animation project that I am pretty excited about, hand drawn!

Here are just the comix we sold at APE 2012, I am going to offer these all as a "San Francisco Cartoonist Union" comic pack. Details coming soon. 

I hope to have big changes in the coming months to NDVR comix and my art in general.

495- simpsons

I grew up loving the Simpsons and lately I have re-fallen in love with them and Futurama. So I did some paintings to sell at APE this weekend.Sorry for lack of posts, but I have been busy with the Zinefest, APE and my wedding!
But this blog will not be abandoned.

I am working on a poster/flyer image for an upcoming benefit show for the bigfoot museum. So I drew this image of the two headliners, Dan P. and Kepi out searching for bigfoot. I started on illustration board, which I have only ever used once. It was magical, such quality, the ink went on flat and smooth. I am really trying to  improve my ink brushwork on foil age and rocks. So this was a perfect excuse to go bananas on it. As for the color scheme I wanted to do something monochromatic, just slight shades of the same hue. Which the hue is exactly is still to be decided. this poster is still not finished, I am going to add a thin border and a sidebar on the right with all the info.

491- paintings or stalling?

I am thinking about selling little paintings from my favorite moments of one of my favorite shows of all time, the simpsons...and some moments from futurama, another fantastic show. but maybe i am just posting this because I was drawing a new comic page, and it looked kinda crummy and I "needed" to step away for a moment. The quotes are for the sinking suspicious feeling that I am stalling. hmmm.  

Hey I will be A.P.E. coming next month. these paintings will be there too.

489- turtle piece in progress

as the title says, this is a TMNT drawing still in process. I am thinking about adding a proper cityscape background, maybe all in linework. but i like it so far, maybe black and white would be better. or just way darker with muted colors. stay tuned if you care to see its fate.

I also have been looking at a lot of other artists on the internet lately, there are such good artists out there. kinda intimidating. But all we can do is be the best we can be, and not worry about others. It took me awhile but i figured out that art is not a race against others, just against yourself. this can be applied to most things.

487- SF Zinefest!

I just finished table-ing at the SF Zinefest this weekend, it was a blast. Had a lot of fun talking to people and since its free, we got a great assortment of different patrons. Good show, probably my favorite one I do all year. Got some nice prints and met some great artists. Huzzah!

I have been on the computer almost all day, formatting and getting comix ready for printing, as well as logo work, coloring, and so much more art related nonsense that my brain is fried. Somehow this image came to be in all this frazzling. I kinda makes me want to take up smoking...but only Pink Slim Brand!

480- Unsure Explorer

I sat down with the intention of drawing an explorer type and this sad guy came out. this is a digital drawing, and the line quality came out a lot better than the last time I just sketched aimlessly. I really want to do more drawing digitally, just hone my hand at it. Now that I think about it, I think this guy comes from a passing thought about doing a comic about a brokenhearted adventurer. Who in the nadir of emotion decides to descend into the underdark. He continues to delve deeper and deeper into the dark as his broken heart grants him the uncaring daring needed to survive. hmmm, maybe.

This is a fun page from a upcoming comic, sorry for the lack of posts and activity, but in real life I am drawing up a comic storm in preparation for APE and SF Zinefest conventions. So there will be a flash flood of comics coming soon.

476- a Blast from the past!

474- working on new stuff.

I am working on a new little comic strip featuring everyone's favorite muties, It's strange drawing these characters. I am trying to get a certain look, their 90's cartoon incarnation, and I realize how far I have slipped in my more representational drawing. Which I will soon focus more intently on, and sharpen back up.  I don't want to give too much away on this new comic, as to give away the gags leave little else to discover. 

I am working on a small collection of my recent comix for the upcoming SF Zinefest & A.P.E. also in SF. These two are the only regular conventions I attend these recent years, but I may add San Jose's Big Wow and Oakland's Image Expo. This new comic's working title is "Chem-Trails", should be around 32 pages and  be the standard comic size. Maybe I will draw on some bags and boards...maybe not.

473- a little prehistoric humor

I really don't know where the inspiration for this gag came from, maybe from the fleeting nature of life. It, the idea for this gag that is, has been sitting around on a scrap piece of paper for about a month now. Overall I think it came out well, the figures are too stiff in the second panel. The camera angle stays the same, which I know I have a problem with. And I do try to make a conscious effort to move, but I really drag my feet on angles unless the shot calls for it. Oh well. It's not bad.

471- Inspiration

I recently went to southern California to visit my friend Danny, and got really inspired to make more art. He has a room set aside for music, which I think is really fantastic. I thought about how I want a little room for my art. But then I realized that I already have a studio space and that I should use it more. So, its been a great summer so far, and I think that this will be the summer where I really start to utilize my studio. What this has to do with this "Minion" drawing I don't know. I just like how purple it is.

Skaleto has always been one of my favorite personal characters, how could one not love a daredevil acrobat who constantly tempts death? Ever since I made him I have been searching for the right story to place him in, and unfortunately I am still looking. But soon Skaleto, soon.

463- Travis Bickle

I for some reason think its humorous that there should every be a "Taxi Driver" cartoon. So I decided that I would use this Impetus to get some character design work in. I was hoping for more of a streamline simple shape look, but I will revisit Travis after I get others finished.

460* - BEAUTIFUL SUNNY AFTERNOON

SPACEMAN SPIFF, about three feet by four feet, something like that. Black, Red and White oils on canvas. I  started this last fall, and have not had the will to jump back into it, hibernating I guess. But anyhoo, today was so pretty, I had to be outside. I am going to wait for today's paints to dry and will go back in with more white and red, obscure the lines more.

462- morning exercise

I made this quick image just so I wouldn't feel unproductive when I get to work. So as I am washing dishes, I can think, "at least I did a little art today." thats all. I will get back to the grindstone after work. Yokes!

461- POOOOOOONG!

The title of this post is meant to be yelled like Kirk yelling "Khan!" I am not a big fan of beer pong, I have played it before and it was fun. I did this flyer, I do like this flyer. I think it is missing something...but I don't have the luxury of time to figure it out.

458- gotta get back in the saddle...

Today I finished two more of the snake about town gags, for a total of eight, I would like to get anther ten done. Then chose the best to actually put in the book, we have high hopes for this collection of snake gags. Then I will switch gears to a long form comic, about seventy to a hundred pages, about double my old longest page count of forty seven pages. And hopefully more than double in quality, Yesh! But that story will be so long in the making, it will not make it to see the end of times (cough). Anyhoo, enjoy the lame snake gag!

457- exercise in futility

Sometimes things are over before they start, and when you try to pour some of your heart into them it seems wasted. but if you have a big heart there is always more to pour.
